Joseph J. Basista, Esq.
JOE BASISTA is a principal at BrainSpark Associates, LLC, where he specializes in patent prosecution, IP due diligence and counseling technology companies, investors and individual inventors.
Joe graduated from Union College in 1988, receiving a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served as an officer in the United States Navy until 1992 in a variety of engineering and supervisory positions, including as a Boarding and Interdiction Officer in the Red Sea during Operation Desert Storm. Joe graduated from the George Washington University School of Law in 1996, and while attending law school was the Executive Managing Editor of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal. Upon graduation, Joe worked as an associate with the law firm of Knobbe, Martens, Olson and Bear in the areas of intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution. Joe was subsequently employed as in-house intellectual property and corporate counsel by a number of companies, including as the first in-house patent counsel at Kyphon. Joe returned to private practice in 2010, and joined BrainSpark Associates, LLC as a founding member in 2012.
Joe is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
